The BSE 30-share Sensex was down 186.25 points or 1.01% to 18,345.03. The index lost 211.40 points at the day's low of 18,319.88 in mid-afternoon trade. The Sensex fell 38.60 points at the day's high of 18,492.68 in early trade. The S&P CNX Nifty was down 45.75 points or 0.83% to 5,499 after gyrating between 5,541.80 and 5,487.65 during the day. The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.77% and the BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.74%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The market breadth was weak. On BSE, 1723 shares declined while 1054 shares gained and a total of 117 shares remained unchanged. Among the 30-member Sensex pack, 26 declined while only four of them managed gains.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to ` 2102 crore, lower than ` 2840.45 crore on Friday, 13 May 2011.

TODAY WATCH CAREFULLY 5460-5477 AREA. IF BREACHES WITH VOLUME, THE NEXT SUPPORT IS AROUND 5400 AREA. BELOW THAT, FRESH SELLING MAY DRAG NIFTY TO 5200 AREA. ON THE UPSIDE, A NUMBER OF RESISTANCE WILL BE SEEN.
